Italians in Pak Meng, Thailand

It has been a while since we've updated the blog and as I am in a writing mood today so I thought I would write about our little trip to Pak Meng Beach, Thailand.

Pak Meng is located somewhere in Trang and is in the Sikao district. It's a nice quiet place where people come to go for holiday. We decided to go there as Pak Meng is less 'commercialized' hence less tourists are there :)

DAY 1:

We started off our journey early in the morning on 8th March 2013.

There were two Multistradas (me+Sal & Fared+wife), two Ducati Monster (Jasmy+wife and Nadia) and two Aprilia Shiver (Zul & Bob). Our good friend Muzz escorted us till R&R Tapah on his Z800.

Initially we planned to leave KL at 230am but due to some 'technical difficulties', we rode off at around 330am (down by 1 hour)

we waited for the whole group at R&R Damansara

We then stopped at R&R Tapah which is about 150km from R&R Damansara for the next refuelling session. My bike can actually go close to 250km between stops.

R&R Tapah

We then continued our journey and stopped at R&R Juru. The initial plan was to do our Subuh prayer at R&R Gurun but since we were behind schedule, we prayed here.

Sunrise :)

Since we already fueled up at R&R Juru, we didn't stop at R&R Gurun but we went straight to Changlun to refuel and complete our 'white card' and insurans.

We stopped by at Changlun

We planned to cross the border early to avoid all the crowds. However, due to unseen circumstances, we arrived at the border at around 915am, about an hour plus behind schedule.

We arrived at Bukit Kayu Hitam border quite late and the sun is already up

There was a bit of a drama at the border and the group had to split up. Three bikes proceed into Thailand and the other three had to turn back to settle some issues.

At the Sadao border on the Thailand side

Due to all the delays, we only managed to settle the Immigration and Custom clearance at around 1030am. We stopped for a VERY LATE breakfast at Dannok and we continued our journey at around 1100am.

We continued our journey making our way to Trang where we stopped by for lunch at one of the Muslim restaurant I found during my last visit to Trang.

Riding in downtown Trang trying to find the restaurant

We got lost a bit but its all good :)

Finally we found it!

We had a very late lunch at around 300pm. After enjoying our lunch and resting for a bit, we continued our journey to Pak Meng beach which is not far from Trang town.

Some photos along the way

My map setup on my bike :)

Finally we arrived at the resort after a long day travel. The other three bike are still making their ways to Pak Meng as they entered Thailand through a different border.

Thanks to an arrangement made by my new found friend in Trang, this is where we will be spending our holiday in Pak Meng.

Me and my wife checked in to our room, had our showers and we then decided to take a stroll along Pak Meng to see whats around this place.

A few hours later, the three bikes finally arrived in Pak Meng! We are now back as one group again! :) The whole journey (including detour for the three) was over 900km and for some, it was their first time covering such distance in a day. However, it was a very relaxed journey.

Later that night, we had our dinner at a very nice Muslim restaurant facing the beach. Very nice :)

DAY 2:

We all slept like a baby last night, maybe because of the tiring journey. Me and Sal woke up early and decided to go for a brisk walk in the morning.

We then regrouped, had our breakfast and got ourselves ready for the activity that we have planned. ISLAND HOPPING! :)

The Island Hopping package that they offered

The resort provided us with a very nice transport

We waited for our turn to get on the boat

At the jetty while waiting for the boat, you can see it was full

We boarded our boat. The island hopping package that we took include the boat ride, 2 x snacks, lunch, snorkeling equipment and tour.

Everybody looked happy on the boat

Well, we looked happy too

We arrived at the first island. There are several other tour boats from various places including Koh Lanta

Morakot cave was our first destination. Basically u need to swim to get to the cave

Look at the fishes
Everybody's swimming like a long train

This family came in small boats

Look at how happy we were! :)

Unfortunately, I didn't go into the cave because I had this morbid fear of water. Sal was sweet enough to keep me company.

The second destination was quite close to a beach. This time i decided to join them.
Guess what? It was my first time ever since I lost my leg.....which is about 8 years now.

Sal putting on her game face

They were all laughing at me. Look at how nervous I was

Look mommy, I made it! :)

Bob assisted me all the way

The view was majestic

Bob pulled me and my tube :)

Look Ma... no leg! :D

Bob got attacked by sea urchin

Them nasty sea urchins :(

Crazy faces :P

We then continued to the next island. Here, the view is even more magnificent because of the depth.

The locals actually lived here

This was our fourth or last island. Here, the specialty was the fishes were extra 'friendly' :)

The fishes were literally fighting for the food in our hand

Look at that, looks like a school of piranha

After the fourth island, we headed back to the mainland. It was already 430 and everybody was tired and hungry.

Back in the mainland, we decided to snap a few photos. The funny thing was that we had a different kind of transport back to the hotel. Instead of a plush 15 seater van, we got to ride at the back of pick up truck. Weeeeee!!!! :D

Meanwhile, back at the hotel, we showered and quickly got back on our bikes. Reason? We wanted to take some pictures of the sunset at the beach.

Getting ready to leave the hotel

We managed to snap a few photos during the sunset

We then went to the jetty and snapped a few more photos

.... and then we got hungry and decided, lets just go and get something to eat :P

DAY 3:

Again, we all (well, at least me and Sal) slept like a baby last night. This was our third and last day here. Felt like it was only yesterday when we checked in to the resort. Now it was time to go home :(

Before we headed home, it was befitting for us to snap a few more photos. :)

Group shot in front of the resort

Some on-board shots along some road :P

We took another picture at the jetty.

While taking photos, we had our breakfast of champions. STICKY RICE and FRIED CHICKEN! Yummmm!

Some crazy shots of Me and Sal :P

Final pictures at the center of the town

Finally, after all the photo session, we headed home. This time, instead of gong through the Sadao-Bukit Kayu Hitam Border, we all decided we tried a different route. We went through the Wang Kelian Border.

Everybody got home safe and sound. Eventhough this trip was short, it was a memorable trip. We all loved it and we will see you in our next destination! :)
