10th Annual Charity Ride to Kuala Selangor

Just when we thought that Koh Lanta was going to be our final distant ride before Ramadhan 2013, an invitation to a charity ride came in. The ride was initiated and organized by Mobikes on July 6th 2013 (Saturday), and it has become the club's annual event every Ramadhan since the past 10 years.

Every year Mobikes would pool donations from riders to be distributed to orphans and poor families around Kuala Selangor. They would ensure that every year the donations would be given to different families. This year Mobikes managed to gather about 80 motorcycles and pooled close to RM30,000 worth of donations (cash and not cash item). Wow!

The journey began as early as early as 6.45am at the RV point, Shell Putra Heights, Subang Jaya.

Medusa was the third to arrive that morning. huhuhu

The small convoy lead by Abang Shaid (the president of Puchong Bikers) headed straight to Masjid Jamek Kuala Selangor, around 70km from Puchong via Guthrie Corridor. Upon arrival, we were being greeted with a very warm and friendly welcome by members of Mobike.

Breakfast aka Brekkie time... yum!
This is where they kept all the donations
collected.. At the registration counter! *wink*

After everyone's done with breakfast, the program started off with the recitation of Surah Yasin at the mosque's foyer.

Upon completing the Quran recitation, all bikers began lining up getting ready for the massive convoy. There were about 80 bikes and 5 support vehicles (Toyota Hilux). The latter carried all the donation items.

We donated to 8 families, each family received some cash and household items. The children were all recently orphaned when their fathers passed away due to road accidents and critical illness, and what's worse is the mothers were generally not working. These unfortunate families had to beg shelter from relatives.

I managed to get the opportunity to represent the team to hand over some of the donations :)

After we were done with all the donations Mobike prepared lunch for all the president's house.

The menu served was very traditional but the the cooking was awesome! ;D

After lunch, we decided to head home. Along the way we stopped by to get some ABC at this restaurant to kill off the heat from the hot weather. For those who aren't familiar with ABC, it is a local delicacy called "Air Batu Campur" or ABC in short. It literally means "Mixed Ice", where they grind the ice blocks into snowflake-material and serve them in a bowl with some red beans, corns, cincau, and lots and lots of flavored syrup and condensed milk. *sounds so unhealthy and the perfect remedy for diabetics. haha*

It was indeed a good trip and a great experience! We arrived safely home at about 5.00pm.

"We pray for the orphans to be blessed and in their lives. And to all readers, we wish you a blessed Ramadhan and Syawal ahead."
